Conveyancing

We don’t cut corners

An individual, qualified, professional will deal thoroughly and carefully with your legal work. It is essential you have a specialist working for you to protect your investment and ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Although we recognise cost is important to our clients, we won’t compromise the quality of our service by cutting costs to the minimum, perhaps by taking less individual care, or having non-qualified staff do the work in an automated way.

You will know the name of the member of staff handling your case and that of their secretary, and one or the other will always be available to answer your questions.

We are members of the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme. This means that we meet the high standards that the Law Society requires when providing conveyancing services.

We do not expect you to log on to our website to find out what is happening with your transaction — we encourage you to keep in contact through telephone or email.

We will keep you regularly informed, especially when some delays occur beyond your or our control — this is all part of our normal service, without any extra charge.

We will be happy to provide you with a free estimate of your costs which will include all the normal fees associated with the sale or purchase of a property. Estimates between firms can vary and we would advise that you always confirm what services and fees are included.

Wills, Probate and Powers of Attorney

We help you to plan for situations that you may not have considered.

  • A Will ensures that, on your death, your estate passes to those people whom you want to benefit. A Solicitor will personally advise you on the preparation of your Will to include tax planning, trusts and guardians for your children when appropriate.
  • We will prepare all the necessary papers to apply for a “Grant of probate” or “Letters of administration”, collect any assets and distribute them according to the Will or if there is no Will, under the Rules of Intestacy.
  • A Lasting Power of Attorney enables you to appoint people of your choice to manage your finances and care without them having to make a costly application to Court if you lose capacity. It will also avoid them having to file detailed financial accounts at Court each year. We will be pleased to discuss and advise you about LPAs.

Using our years of experience and listening carefully to your needs, we can advise and help to plan for situations that you may not have considered, thus ensuring that your estate is protected and eventually passed on to those you wish to inherit.

Family relationship & children services

We aim to avoid court action unless unavoidable

Thomas Dunton’s accredited and specialist Family Law team offers you a bespoke, personalised service, tailored to your  individual circumstances. Representation is provided on all legal issues arising from a family or relationship breakdown, particularly in connection with finances and the division of assets on separation or divorce, or where children are involved.

Rather than take immediate court action, we aim, if possible by encouraging discussion, to resolve issues by negotiation and mediation. In doing so we hope to save you money and preserve relationships as far as possible. In addition, we have years of experience rigorously pursuing full court litigation when the circumstances require it.

We can provide sensitive advice in all areas, including Divorce, Separation, Finance and Children.

For more information and advice, please contact us on 01689 822554, email family@thomasdunton.co.uk

Personal Injury

We don’t represent insurance companies and don’t employ middle men — our first  and only priority is to our clients.

If you have suffered an injury, perhaps a road traffic accident, an accident at work or elsewhere, or if you have a work related disease, you may have a claim.

We offer you a free one hour first interview where we can assess your case, advise you if you have a valid claim and discuss funding options which include “No win, no fee”.

With a personal injury, being able to meet your solicitor face to face is important. They are able to see your injuries first-hand and the effect they have on you as a person.

At Thomas Dunton we have the experience to recover compensation for clients whose injuries range from broken bones to brain injuries.

As well as damages, compensation may cover rehabilitation, adaptations to your home, medical treatment and loss of pay.

We will ensure your claim is dealt with thoroughly and efficiently to provide the best possible outcome to get you back on track.

Commercial Mediation services

Mediation encourages reasoned discussion

Where Court litigation deals in confrontation and argument, mediation encourages reasoned discussion. A skilled mediator can help you establish communication even where it has completely broken down.

When you’re running a business – big or small, the benefits can often include savings in emotional stress, time and cost.

Even the most strained relationships can sometimes be restored and preserved, or at least brought to a close on a more respectful basis.

By looking for creative solutions and using a full range of alternatives where possible, we aim to help you avoid court litigation by means of negotiation and mediation

For more information and advice, please contact us on 01689 822554, email mediation@thomasdunton.co.uk

Dispute Resolution

Less traumatic and more effective solutions

Though most of us would rather avoid a dispute, sometimes it’s just not possible. That’s when you need specialist advice, both about the strength of your argument, and how best to resolve the issue.

We can help you to choose the right course of action. Taking your matter to Court is still an option, but alternative routes like mediation and negotiation can be less traumatic and more effective than the Courtroom in solving disagreements.

We can assist in a full range of disputes including:

  • Commercial matters;
  • Land and property;
  • Employment;
  • Inheritance, trusts and probate;
  • Building disputes.
