In an article in The Guardian, it is reported that five people die each week in Bristol due to high levels of air pollution. The findings, which has been produced by researchers at King’s College London, examined the impact of PM2.5 and nitrogen dioxide and found that they contributed to approximately 260 deaths in the Bristol area.

It is thought that these pollutants could cause up to 36,000 deaths in the UK each year and are a contributory factor to asthma, lung cancer, heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
The costs to the NHS and social care budgets, estimated by Public Health England, could reach £5.5bn.
