The British Heart Foundation have called on the government to set legal limits regarding air pollution. They believe that toxic air could account for over 160,000 deaths over the next ten years. They have also put out a call to action to the general public asking them to write to their MPs urging them to enforce stricter pollution laws to be a requirement by 2030.

“Make no mistake, our toxic air is a public health emergency and we haven’t done enough to tackle this threat to our society,” commented the charity’s healthcare innovation executive director. “We need to ensure that stricter, health-based air quality guidelines are adopted into law to protect the health of the nation as a matter of urgency.”
