The Mirror reports on its discovery of memos from British Coal bosses that reveal their plans to make it difficult for miners to claim compensation for work related illnesses, predominately lung diseases. More than half a million ex-miners eventually won damages of £2.4 billion, however the process lasted years and meant that the final claims were not settled until 2012. Half of the claimants had died by the time these pay-outs were finalised. The full story can be read here.
