The amount of time it takes to process and finalise a divorce is taking longer than it did three years ago according to an article in the Times. Every divorce petition is different and the specific circumstances will dictate how long it takes to complete.  However, a recent article in the Times reports that it is now taking longer than in previous years. A  Decree Absolute, which finalises the divorce, can now take up to almost a year. This is one month longer than three years ago. The increase is thought to be owing to government funding cuts and understaffing at regional divorce centres.
