The Coronavirus pandemic has meant that some people have struggled to have their Wills witnessed, especially those who are shielding and isolating during lockdown.

It has meant that the use of Zoom and FaceTime have become more prevalent as tools to help witnesses.

Currently this is not accommodated for in the exiting law; which requires that a Will is made ‘in the presence’ of at least two witnesses.

The Government has therefore deemed Wills witnessed in this way legal, providing that the sound and video is sufficient to ascertain what is happening. The law will come into effect in September, but will be backdated from 31st January 2020 and remain until 31st January 2022.
