Northern Ireland looks to legalise same-sex marriage as legislation making the changes came into force at midnight after the 21 October deadline passed without a devolved government being reformed. Same-sex marriage was legalised in England and Wales in July 2013, and came into force in March 2014. The first same-sex wedding taking place on the 29th March 2014.

The Scottish Parliament also passed an act for same-sex marriage in February 2014 and this came into force in December of the same year.
