Figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown that fewer couples are citing adultery as grounds for their divorce, year on year. The number of cases citing adultery as the cause for the break up has steadily dropped since 1998.  In 2008, 20,765 cases cited adultery, compared with 9,205 cases in 2018 – a drop of over 50%. In 1998, the total stood at 36,310.
